Biography

 

Ragheb Subhi Alama (Arabicراغب صبحي علامة‎ born June 7, 1962) is a Lebanese singer and composer.[1] Born and raised in Ghoubeiri in BeirutLebanon, Alama has a career spanning over 25 years. He was awarded the Murex Dor award as the best Arab singer and he won the platinum CD award as the Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist two times: 1992 and 2009.

He married Jehan Al Ali on January 18, 1996, and has two children, Khaled (Born 1997) and Louay (Born 2001). He has 3 sisters and 4 brothers-of which he was the youngest. His father named him after the first Lebanese judge, "Ragheb beik Alama".

Ragheb took up playing the lute "Oud" and participated in a live radio program while he was 8 years old.

At that time, his biggest achievement was participating in a TV talent program called "Studio El Phan", meaning, "Studio of Art". He achieved the Platinum award in that program.

His first song was "Bokra Beyobrom Dolabik". Afterwards, he started to show on TV and his name started to rise gradually.

Ragheb Alama was the first among Arab Stars to videotape a music video "Albi Eshiqha" in 1991.

International companies such as, Samsung, Persol, Mercedes Benz, Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, and Lou Loua Project in Qatar signed contacts with Ragheb Alama for their marketing campaigns.

In April, 2009 and for the first time in the Arab world, Ragheb Alama achieved the platinum award from Virgin Megastore in Dubai for the highest sales of albums among others. The album named "Ba'asha'ak" produced by his own company BackStage Productions.

2000-Present

In 2000, Alama recorded "Betgheeb betrouh" with the then-rising singer Elissa. In 2003, Alama released Tab Leh? (Oh Why?) under the recording label Alam El Phan and the title track, entered the No.1 spot. He co-performed "Yallah Ya Shabab" with Andy Madadian.

At the end of 2004 he released Al Hob el-Kabir (The Great Love). The first single was "Nasseny Eldonia" (make me forget the world), video for which was shot in Italy. In July 2005, the title track premiered on Melody Hit. The music video, directed by Wissam Smayra, was shot in Malaysia.

International companies such as, Samsung, Persol, Mercedes Benz, Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, and Lou Loua Project in Qatar signed contacts with Ragheb Alama for their marketing campaigns.

In 2006, he participated in the pro-celebrity Formula One race, held in Bahrain, as an introductory show to the competition. He won Third Place overall. The Formula One Management started an agreement with Alama to participate in the next race that will be held in ShanghaiChina.

In May 2008, Ragheb Alama has released Ba'sha'akand in April, 2009 and for the first time in the Arab world, Ragheb Alama achieved the platinum award from Virgin Megastore in Dubai for the highest sales of albums among others. The album named "Ba'sha'ak" produced by his own company BackStage Productions.

Ragheb Alama met his fans in Al Hamra's Starbucks to have a coffee with them. The event was crowded with a heavy presence of divers Arab nationals and different age groups, on September 11, 2010.

In 2010, this gathering was part of the annual festival of Hamra Street in the heart of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. This initiative was done by Ragheb Alama himself, for two reasons that are close to his heart: first, to support the revival of Hamra street and then, to announce the October release of his latest Album, which will be distributed in Starbucks in the Middle East and GCC.

Starbucks international have mentioned that it is the first time they sell the album of an Arab Artist, in all their branches in the Middle East and GCC.

Ragheb Alama had received the Virgin Megastore Platinum Album, crowning his 25 years career.
